Texas Rangers: Regular season results – MLB September 2011
After giving some wonderful results in August, the Texas Rangers started the month of September on a positive note as well. Defeating the Tampa Bay Rays in the final game of a three match series 7-2, the Rangers seemed to be cruising to the post-season.
Although they had a forgettable series against the Boston Red Sox in August, they dominated their arch rivals in almost every aspect of the game in the following month to clinch a 2-1 series victory.
The batters scored heavily and the pitchers did a marvellous job in a strange 10-0 victory over the Red Sox in game one on September 2. Although the Rangers lost their way a bit in the second game, they came back strongly in the third and final game to complete
an impressive series victory. Josh Hamilton capped Texas’ seven-run sixth inning with a bases loaded triple to help the Rangers improve their win-loss record to 80-61
"You've got two teams that are potent offensively," Rangers’ manager Ron Washington said. "But, once again, it's about pitching. You go against teams like the Rangers, Red Sox and Yankees and you better bring your pitching -- or it can happen like it did
today."
Rangers had a decent series against Oakland Athletics as well. Colby Lewis gave up a home-run in the first inning but he bounced back brilliantly in the eighth inning to help his side overwhelm the opposition team.
Although the Athletics managed to level the series with a solid 8-7 win in game two, they fell short by a long distance in the decider 1-8 to let the Rangers complete an emphatic series victory. C.J. Wilson set a career high in wins in game three to help
his side eliminate the Athletics from play-off connection.
The Rangers continued their dominant run in the series against the Cleveland Indians as well, coming out victorious in each game. Alexi Ogando managed to find his pitching form just at the right time as he allowed only two singles while throwing six scoreless
innings. Ron Washington was absolutely delighted with the result and he praised Ogando’s effort in a post-match interview.
"What a year," manager Ron Washington said. "It doesn't matter where I put him in that lineup, he delivers."
Coming back from 0-1 down to win the series against the Seattle Mariners, the Rangers looked full of confidence as the season approached an end. Winning six straight games, Ron Washington’s side ended the month of September very strongly. Losing only five
times in 26 games, it will be fair to say that the Rangers got better with every passing month in the season. Team manager, Washington aimed to give similar results in the post-season games as well.
