Texas Rangers’ Ron Washington comments on David Murphy and C. J. Wilson after Tuesday’s game
Manager Ron Washington was more than willing to talk to the press on Tuesday, September 7, after his squad obliterated the Tampa Bay Rays 8-0 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
The two teams met in a regular season fixture and it was their second game of the series. The skipper was more than delighted with his team’s performances and he took special note of David Murphy and C. J. Wilson during the post-game press address.
Murphy, who plays at right-field, managed four hits from his four At-Bats. The player scored two runs and led in four runs. Going through an average season, the hard striker of the ball made his efforts count, as he demonstrated his usefulness to the manager
in blitzing fashion and there were words of praise being passed around the locker room.
"I've always said how important Murphy is to us," Washington said. "He hasn't had the type of year that he's wanted to have from the beginning to now, but he kept working and the opportunity presented itself and we're very fortunate to have a David Murphy
to step up and do what he's been doing."
While Murphy proved his mettle with the bat, C. J. Wilson proved his worth with the ball. He delivered his first career shut-out as he restricted the Tampa Bay Rays within the diamond and closed the game, 8-0 in favour of the Rangers. Inflicted with a left
index finger, the star player showed the fans why he’s the new Number one ace in the pitching rotation.
The hurler managed to concede just five hits and three balls. He cancelled out the threat with four double plays and six strike-outs. By the fifth inning, Wilson had made his mind up to finish the encounter on his own.
"[Wilson] told us in the fifth inning he was going to finish," manager Ron Washington said. "He had his cutter working tonight and a tight slider."
Washington will be a happy man right now as his squad is looking to maintain their 3.5 wins lead till the end of the regular American League season.
