Texas Rangers’ Ron Washington controls emotions after losing World Series – MLB Update
Texas Rangers’ manager Ron Washington was all praise for the St. Louis Cardinals after losing Game 7, emphasising that the Redbirds deserved to win. Playing at home, the Cardinals overcame the Rangers 6-2 on Friday, October 28 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri to win their 11th World Series title and the first since 2006.
Washington congratulated his counterpart, Tony La Russa, on being a true fighter and to the players for putting up an excellent fight in the World Series finale. He acclaimed La Russa’s managerial skills and added that the manager has been central to the way Cardinals’ fought back in the season.
The Cardinals were 10.5 games behind Atlanta Braves in the Wild Card standings on August 25, but paved their way back into the season backed by a strong defence and an equally competent offence. Washington agreed to the notion, but added that the Rangers fought well and will go back to Texas with heads high.
Referring to Game 6, Washington pointed out that had the Rangers made the last out, it would have been a different story altogether. He continued that the Cardinals proved themselves to be true champions and thus did not lose hope.
After losing to San Francisco Giants in last year’s edition, the Rangers had vowed to win the World Series in 2011, but the result was not convincing. However, Washington remained confident of his team’s performance and asserted that the commitment to get till here was enough to prove his team’s worth on the circuit.
The manager shunned talks of attributing the loss to any particular player, reiterating that the team has always lost and won together and this was no exception. Talking about the failure of his bull-pen particularly in this series, Washington said, “I don't have the answer, because I wish they would have continued to be dominant. I wish I did have the answer. I don't. You know, those are the guys that got us here, and those guys was in position to take us further, and it didn't get done.”
Washington assured that this loss would not have an adverse affect on the team and that his men will be better prepared for the next season.
