Texas Rangers’ Ron Washington happy with squad as club defeats Cleveland Indians 10-4
Texas Rangers’ manager, Ron Washington, was pleased on Tuesday, September 13 when his squad took out the Cleveland Indians 10-4 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
The skipper was more than ecstatic about David Murphy’s contribution in the night and it enforced an understanding that the outfielder has become an essential figure in the line up.
Nelson Cruz is back from the disabled list and there has been speculation that the player would replace someone in the outfield. However those concerns were wagged off Murphy when he turned in his performance for the day with two mighty homers. Washington
clarified Murphy’s presence in the squad after the game.
"If he's going to swing the bat like he did tonight, he's going to play," Washington said.
David Murphy smashed two homers to lead the Rangers to a 2-1 standing against Cleveland by the end of the bottom fourth. His first hit came in the second inning against the Indians starting pitcher, Justin Masterson. His second came in the fourth inning
against the same hurler, as both shots were hit to the right-field.
The star scored a run in the bottom sixth when he and Mike Napoli were led home by a Craig Gentry single to centre. Murphy then scored another run in the bottom seventh when Napoli smashed a RBI single to centre-field.
"He had a good night tonight," Washington said. "He got us on the board early and gave the rest of his teammates a chance to get into the flow."
All in all, Murphy was the Man of the Match on Tuesday and Washington knows his relevance to the team.
"I've always said David Murphy is a big part of this team," Washington said.
Matt Harrison was another man in the mix who Washington spoke of after the game. He featured in five innings, conceding three runs from seven hits. The manager took him off after the sixth inning.
"He battled to get us into the sixth, but I just felt I needed to make a change right there," Washington said.
The Indians looked good till the sixth inning when the game got out of hand. Thanks to Murphy and Harrison, the Rangers persevered in the end.
