Texas Rangers’ Ron Washington reflects on recent 3-4 loss to Oakland Athletics
The Oakland Athletics overcame their problems on Thursday, September 22 at Oakland Coliseum as Jemile Weeks powered the club to a motivating 4-3 win over the Texas Rangers. The visiting team was looking to enforce a clean sweep but a good resistance from
Weeks and the pitching rotation kept the Rangers at bay.
Texas’ manager Ron Washington took the opportunity to talk about the result while Craig Gentry spoke of the sun being a major contributor in the A’s bid for a win. Washington complimented the A’s pitching rotation that got the job done. He highlighted Colby
Lewis’ and Darren Oliver’s contribution in the defeat the Rangers picked up.
"They just beat us today," Washington said. "Last night we got their guy, today they got our guy. It is the way it is. You'd like to win every game, but we were playing against another Major League team and we won two of them. You would like to sweep, but
it didn't happen. We've got to keep winning games and winning series. It will happen."
Rangers are currently on top of the American League West and are two guys shy of heading to the playoffs. They had a chance to cut their chase to just one win when the Los Angeles Angels lost to the Toronto Blue Jays but they faltered on their path to gaining
ground against their division rivals. The club will look to win the series against the Mariners in Arlington when they head back home.
Centre-fielder Craig Gentry was also available for a comment after the game. The A’s had brought their chances up in the seventh when they equalised 3-3 in the seventh. David DeJesus was allowed to walk by Lewis to first and he moved to third base on a double
from Cliff Pennington.
That double however was on a pop to deep right centre-field. Gentry was in position to catch it off the wall but the sun blocked his vision. The ball fell a few paces ahead of the out-fielder which eventually resulted in the equalising run.
Regardless of what the circumstances were, the A’s picked up an important win, while the Rangers will head home looking to get a much needed victory against the Seattle Mariners for a playoff position.
