Texas Rangers’ Ron Washington talks about 3-1 victory over Los Angeles Angels
The Texas Rangers were on cloud nine on Wednesday, September 28 when they beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-1 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. The Rangers managed an impressive victory through two homers from Mike Napoli.
Angels pulled all the stops and restricted much of the hitting line-up. However it was their former player who came on top of the fixture as he crippled the club with two stunning homers. Manager Ron Washington was able to celebrate the occasion as the winner
signified the franchise’s best winning record since their creation. It also signalled a home plate advantage in the American League Division Series as the Rangers finished on second in the American League standings.
The skipper was overjoyed by the fact that his team will host the Wild-Card club, Tampa Bay Rays at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Nevertheless, he took the opportunity to talk about victory as the game was tied till the ninth inning.
"It was tense the whole night. The Angels pitchers really shut us down, but we kept battling and grinding and in the end, we prevailed," manager Ron Washington said. "I'm certainly glad [Napoli] is on my side."
With the game won, the Rangers will be hoping to win the Division series as the stakes lay high for a place in the World Series. According to experts, the club has a better chance at gold than last year. Hitters like Adrian Beltre and Mike Napoli have added
a new dimension in the offensive line-up and that puts the club in a better position than before.
The winner on Wednesday ensured the team that they will not have to head to New York to face the Yankees. Washington was glad to see that rough schedule omitted. "We did what we had to do and we've been doing that all year," Washington said. "We certainly
didn't want to take a five-hour trip to New York."
Ron Washington has a big task now on maintaining his team’s form. Against the Tampa Bay Rays, anything can happen can in the play-offs.
