Texas Rangers’ Ron Washington’s contract extended for two years – MLB News
The Texas Rangers decided on Monday, January 30, that they will extend the contract of their manager Ron Washington for two years; an announcement that was not only anticipated but also eagerly expected.
The announcement came on Monday at a time when the Rangers have in recent weeks kept their focus to filling the gaps in their roster. With the bullpen ever stronger and the offence undergone a few minor changes as well, this decision is certainly huge.
This will be Ron Washington’s sixth season with the club. Add to it the amazing managerial responsibilities he has exhibited all this while. His hard work and dedication to the team has shown with the Rangers having a tremendous past few seasons.
After all, the Texas Rangers have successfully made their way into the World Series finals for last two consecutive years, fighting well-fought battles against the strong teams of both the American and National Leagues.
"I think what causes that improvement is dealing with the fact that you don't know everything," Washington said. "I tell that to my players. I'm open-minded and willing to learn. That's the way I was brought up and the way I am now.”
The Texas Rangers hired Washington as manager back in 2006. Under his auspices, the Rangers have won 427 games out of 810. All the same, he is now the third longest-tenured manager of the club since the franchise has come into being.
With his wonderful performance throughout these six years, he has proven his worth. Additionally, he will be looking to put into use the experience he has got.
“I've gained a lot of experience and I try to use those experiences on the field. The longer I'm a manager, the better I'm going to be. As each year comes and goes, the better I'm going to be."
Although the Texas Rangers were unable to attain the ultimate victory in the last two years, Washington has established a credential that many managers will vie to have in their possession in the years to come. With the two year extension, the Rangers’ manager
has the chance to finally realise his dream of winning the World Series for the first time.
