Texas Rangers’ Scott Feldman takes the mound – MLB News
The Texas Rangers’ intra-squad game on Thursday, March 1, witnessed Scott Feldman pitch for the first time this season. The player who is battling a knee injury threw 10 pitches to ascertain the level of fitness.
Feldman who had undergone a knee surgery in 2010 is said to be in good shape now; feeling good for the first time in almost three years. Feldman’s return, it can be said safely, will multiply the Texas Rangers’ chances to have the strongest defence in the
division.
Rangers’ manager, Ron Washington appeared satisfied with the Thursday workout at Arizona.
"His sinker is back and his [cut fastball] is back," manager Ron Washington said. "He's been fighting that injury but he showed last year he's getting it back, and he's continued to show it."
Feldman pitched against the big hitters like Elvis Andrus, Josh Hamilton and Ian Kinsler as he retired all three of them with characteristic style.
This obviously filled the player with pleasure and excitement. "This is the best I've felt in a long time," said Feldman. "I could tell I was over my knee last year. All my pitches were the way they were when I was good."
In 175 games that he has so far played in the career, Feldman has a 4.75 ERA, making a total of 80 starts. Feldman has won 33 games and lost as many. The past season, on the other hand, saw him play very few games.
But it was his appearance in the postseason that brought a win for the Texas Rangers, as Feldman did not lose a game with a 3.29 ERA.
With Feldman, the Texas Rangers had Colby Lewis in Thursday’s intra-squad game whereby the starter threw 13 pitches. "I felt I commanded the fastball pretty decently," Lewis said. "That's all you want to do the first time; command your No. 1 pitch.”
Having the pitchers lined up for bigger games in the upcoming season, the Rangers have pronounced their intention to engage in fierce competition to win this year’s World Series. It will be interesting to see if the team can attain their goal with the presence
of such powerful pitchers.
