Texas Rangers: Spring season review – MLB 2011
Texas Rangers made a very shaky start to their spring season campaign as they were crushed 2-4 by Kansas City Royals on February 27. Looking to get back on track, the Rangers looked in much more control of their game play in the following outing against
the Royals as they avenged their defeat with a thrilling 12-11 victory.
Although they lost their first game in March against Seattle Mariners 4-5, the Rangers came back strong to win four straight games. Thrashing Los Angeles Angels 10-6, they were absolutely brilliant in the opening week of March. Earning a hard fought victory
against Cleveland Indians in their next match-up, they showed amazing fighting spirit and determination.
Experiencing only their third loss of the spring season, the Rangers paid the ultimate price for their unforced errors in a match against Arizona Diamondbacks. Zack Greinke allowed five hits in two innings but conceded only one run to put his side on top.
"It was bad for season time but for where we're at it's OK," Greinke said. "The next start I've got to pick it up a little more. I've got two more before it has to start feeling better and four more before it has to be all right."
Known for their fighting capabilities, the Rangers were absolutely brilliant in a game against Cincinnati Reds, which they managed to tie 5-5. After outplaying Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4 on March 14, the Rangers experienced a huge dip in their form, losing
six straight games. Despite putting up a great show against Seattle Mariners on March 19, Washington’s team was unable to find their winnings ways.
Restoring some of their lost pride in a match against Kansas City Royals, the Rangers secured only their second win in seven days. Derek Holland pitched strongly to put the Rangers in a very commanding position. Team manager, Ron Washington was absolutely
delighted with his efforts and he praised his performance in a post match interview.
"That's the closer in him," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "First and third and all of a sudden that extra little thing he's got that makes him so special kicks in."
After losing games against San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies and Chicago Cubs the Rangers ended the spring season quite strongly. Outshining Seattle Mariners on March 27, they earned a much needed victory going into the regular season.
The Rangers put in a tremendous performance during the Spring session as they managed to dominate and display their prowess on the field. They were looking good for the regular season as they had their final pitching rotation complete. The Rangers would
go on in the regular season full of confidence.
