Texas Rangers’ Vladimir Guerrero to start in game one or two
Texas Rangers outfielder/designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero is reportedly starting in one of two games in San Francisco, which begin the World Series.
The first two games with take place in the Giant’s National League ball park and therefore the Rangers will not be allowed to play with a designated hitter. Guerrero has served as the club’s DH this season. However, if they want to get him into the batting
order in San Francisco they will have to play the veteran in the field.
Rangers’ manager Ron Washington spoke about the possibility of getting Guerrero into one of the first two games.
“I don’t know yet. Haven’t decided,” said the manager. “We really haven’t sat down and talked about it yet, but you can best believe we’ll figure out a way to get Vlad in there. In the starting line-up, some kind of way.”
Guerrero was an important part of the Rangers’ offence during the season, batting in the clean-up spot and earning 115 RBIs. Unfortunately, Guerrero is 35 years old and it is not clear whether he still has the speed to play the field. It is likely that Texas
will play him in left, but it remains unclear which game he will get the nod.
The Giants are pitching right handed pitchers in their first two games with Tim Lincecum taking over game one and Matt Cain getting the ball in game two.
The Dominican native struggled through the American League Divisional Series and for most of the American League Championship Series. However, his bat came alive in the club’s game six, series clinching win over the Yankees, driving in three runs.
So far in the post-season Guerrero has managed a .267 batting average, zero home runs and four RBIs.
