Texas Rangers’ Yu Darvish struggles in game against Cleveland Indians – MLB News
The Texas Rangers’ pitcher Yu Darvish admitted on Tuesday, March 13, that he was struggling with his fastballs in the game against the Cleveland Indians. Being the focus of critical camera eyes, Yu Darvish indeed had an unusually tough day on the mound as
he laboured himself to hold the Indians’ hitters back.
"Overall, physically, I wasn't that good," Darvish said. "I was off on my command. I struggled with my four-seam and two-seam [sinker] fastball. My life on my fastball isn't what I want it to be."
Yu Darvish credited the catcher Yorvit Torrealba for having saved him from giving up more runs. Darvish was of the view that had Torrealba not been catching, he will have given up 10 runs.
The Japanese pitcher, who became the recent sensation and a phenomenon to frantically talk about, had his first day on the field which did not go the way he might have envisaged. The Rangers, it goes without saying, attach enormous expectations to the good
performance of this prodigy.
Facing 13 hitters on Tuesday against the Indians, Darvish gave up two runs in more than three innings that he pitched, also allowing three hits at Goodyear Ballpark. The fact that the Rangers had a 7-0 lead at one point in time and then the Indians staged
a comeback does not make a good commentary on the overall performance of the Rangers defence.
Nonetheless, the Texas Rangers’ manager commented that it was a day when Darvish was erratic.
"It was just one of those days where he was a little erratic," Rangers’ manager Ron Washington said. "But he found a way to get out of some tough spots with minimal damage. He made pitches. We wanted him to finish that inning. He wasn't laboring, he was
just missing his spots."
Ron Washington did not increase the urgency of this matter. While it might not have been a good spell for the young pitcher, it is highly unlikely that the performance will be repeated. Ron knows that once Darvish is back again, he will wreck havoc on the
rival hitters with more force.
