Texas Rangers aiming to change their luck in Seattle as skipper eyes optimism
The Texas Rangers may be in a losing rut at the moment but their fiery start to the season should not be ignored. They do have the potential to take down the competition in the American League and that is a statement that proved to be correct in the previous
season.
The club went on to face the San Francisco Giants in the World Series and aims to have a repeat performance.
This is one of the reasons why manager, Ron Washington, attended meetings in Seattle between the pitchers and the hitters, before the first series game. The skipper wanted to say something to the squad and he wasted no time in passing his message.
We all had a message to send to each other", Washington said. "It was just not me talking".
The skipper would not give details as to what the club players discussed but he was able to talk about certain facts that have arisen through the recent days that the Rangers have gone out to play on the field. The club had a 9–1 start in April. The team
has gone on to lose 12 games in their last 19 fixtures.
According to statistics, the club has committed 18 errors in the last 13 games and that has earned them the worst defensive standing in the league.
"We're certainly out of character about how we're playing defense", Washington said. "It's something we've addressed and we're ready to put it back together. We're certainly good enough to play as well as anybody, now we've got to go out and do it".
The pitchers in the rotation have not turned in good performances either. They have a collective earning runs average of 5.32 from their last 13 games and that is a bad figure to contend the division with. Nevertheless, the manager believes in his strike
force.
"My pitching is what it is", Washington said. "As long as they're healthy, they're only human, too. They are going to have bad days like everybody else. But as long as they have more good ones than bad ones, we can live with it".
If the Rangers want to get back to winning ways, they will need all the words from Ron Washington to encourage them.
