Texas Rangers are shut out by Los Angeles Angels, lose 2-0

Colby Lewis got little help from his teammates Tuesday night as he took loss no. 13 on the year with the Texas Rangers falling to the Los Angeles Angels 2-0.

Lewis looked good pitching seven innings and only giving up four hits while striking out 10 to match his season high. It was also the fifth time he has had that many strike outs in a game this season. No
Ranger pitcher has had that many games with at least 10 strike outs since Nolan Ryan did it eight times and Bobby Witt seven back in 1990.

The only problem for Lewis and the Rangers was that the Angels made the most of their four hits. The first one came in the bottom of the second inning when Hank Conger hit a triple to open the inning. He
scored on the next play when Kevin Frandsen was thrown out after hitting a ground ball to second base.

Conger was involved in scoring the second run for the Angles as well. He hit a ball into play in the fourth inning and ended up being safe at first base due to Mitch Moreland’s throwing error.

Texas actually had as many base runners as the Angels during the game getting five hits and a walk off Ervin Santana. However, not a single base runner for the Rangers made it past second base.

The Rangers are still in good shape to win the AL West division for the first time since 1999. With a four game series coming up with the second place Oakland A’s the Rangers could have the division wrapped
up by next week if they can manage to win some road games.

The Rangers are still without the services of AL MVP candidate Josh Hamilton. Hamilton has not played since running in to the outfield wall while playing the Minnesota Twins 4 September. After initial examinations
found no damage other than bruised ribs, they are now saying that the star outfielder has two fractured ribs. He hopes to return before the end of the regular season, but the team has yet to set a timetable for his return.

With the loss the Rangers fell to 83-66 on the season. Since the Oakland A’s, the Rangers now sit seven games above them, with 12 games left to play.

C.J. Wilson will look to end the Rangers current losing streak when he faces off in the series finale against Dan Haren for the Angels. The season series between the two teams is now tied at seven games apiece.
