Texas Rangers beat New York Yankees 10-6 to avoid series sweep – MLB Update
Texas Rangers fought back strongly to rout the New York Yankees 10-6 at Yankee Stadium in New York on Thursday, August 16 in the finale of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Rangers’ offensive outburst helped them avoid a humiliating series sweep against the American League East Division leaders. Yankees dominated Texas Rangers in first three games of the series. Using their home conditions superbly, they kept their opponents
on the defensive more often than not.
Manager Joe Girardi was expecting his team to complete an emphatic series sweep on Thursday but the Rangers lifted their spirits just at the right time to snap their losing streak.
Adrian Beltre provided the Rangers with an absolutely brilliant start as he added an RBI single to left-centre in the first to put his side on the board. Daniel Murphy also made a useful contribution to extend Rangers lead to 4-0 in the sixth.
"We know what we're capable of," said David Murphy, who played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash.
Girardi and company turned things around in the sixth with Derek Jeter leading the attack. Nick Swisher drove in crucial runs and Adam Jones connected for a two run home-run in the sixth as New York came back from behind to level the score 4-4.
"I don't know about putting up 10 runs every night," manager Ron Washington said. "It's certainly the offense I expect to see most nights."
"It's going to happen. Our guys aren't going to be perfect out there," Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi said.
Credit should be given to Rangers for handling their nerves brilliantly in closing stages of the game. Beltre and Elvis Andrus took complete advantage of the scoring opportunities to lift the Rangers to a much needed victory.
"There's some inconsistency. He'll make some really good pitches and then miss his spot," Girardi said.
Yankees’ starting pitcher Ivan Nova gave up four runs and seven hits in just over five innings. Relief pitcher Boone Logan took the loss for giving up the tie breaking single in the seventh.
