Texas Rangers beat New York Yankees 2-0 at Rangers Ballpark - MLB Update
Starter Yu Darvish shut-out the New York Yankees in a 2-0 win by the Texas Rangers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas on April 24, 2012.
In a clash of titans, Texas kept their head high and in an epic show paralysed the Yankees’ offence. Although Yankees managed seven hits, Texas’ defence did not allow them to complete a single run in the game.
Both sides claim top standings in their respective Divisions. The loss has budged the Yankees a little on the table.
Second baseman Ian Kinsler went 1-for-3 and completed one run for Texas.
With this, his slugging percentage has risen to an impressive .608 in the season. Homer he hit in the bottom of the first was all that Texas needed to force the Yankees into the pressure of a lead throughout the game.
One of the reasons why the Yankees squandered opportunities to score runs when the bases were loaded was an uncanny ability of Darvish to jump out of the jams.
Fastballs and subtle variations he employed were just too enigmatic for the hitters to clear the in-field.
Manager was all-praise of him, terming his precision in the throws as the greatest reason of the kind of effectiveness he had.
"He just keeps getting better every time he takes the ball. Tonight, he used everything he had, and he was effective, very effective. He's getting more and more comfortable," Ron Washington said. "He was pounding the strike zone. That's what you have to
do against that team. He threw everything but the kitchen sink at them."
While the Texas starter had a near perfect outing, Yankees’ will rather like to forget his time on the mound. In little more than six innings, the starter Hiroki Kuroda gave up two runs, five hits including a homer.
By the time Texas manager got Darvish off and sent Joe Nathan to the mound, Yankees had the best chance to bridge the deficit. Credit to Nathan, he managed a save for the Rangers in the end.
Texas is by far ahead of other teams in their Division. Their playoff spot seems very much a reality at the moment. Consistency they have managed so far is something they will look to continue in their upcoming games.
