Texas Rangers blithe after the manager’s contract extension – MLB News
The Texas Rangers team management was bestowed with compliments on Monday, January 30, as the contract was extended of team manager Ron Washington, for two years. While fans welcomed the news, the team general manager Jon Daniels also stated that it is a
happy day for the Texas Rangers.
Hailing the team manager for his laudable services rendered in the last six years, Jon Daniels expressed that Ron Washington was loved and respected in the community.
"It's a very happy day for all the Rangers," general manager Jon Daniels said. "You can't find a manager more beloved in the community and the organization than Ron. He has been a huge part of our success."
There were expectations that the contract will be extended; thanks largely to the winning spirit Ron Washington has instilled in the team. After Bobby Valentine who was the longest serving manager of the Rangers in club history, following Johnny Oates, Ron
Washington will now be the third manager to have served the team for over 800 games.
As the news of extension of the manager’s contract was announced on Monday, the team’s infielder Michael Young also expressed his happiness, saying Washington fully deserved it. Commending him for his honesty and loyalty, Young stated that the Rangers are
a better team with him now.
"I'm happy for Wash," infielder Michael Young said. "He deserves it. He's a lifelong baseball man and knows everything we go through. He's loyal, honest and a good communicator. We're a better team with him as our manager."
It is pertinent to allude to the fact that when Ron Washington took charge as the manager of the team in 2006, the club had been in their rebuilding phase. Since then, Washington has contributed invaluably to the Rangers becoming a force to be reckoned with.
If nothing else, last two years’ performance made it clear how the rebuilding phase under Washington has achieved a great deal for the Texas Rangers; something that most teams which are in phase of rebuilding, take years to attain. The team will be looking
to Washington to guide them to another successful season this year.
