Texas Rangers deal with Yu Darvish to be decided – MLB News
While the Texas Rangers may be awaiting some fresh news as far as inductions are concerned, the team’s chief executive officer Nolan Ryan expressed his hope on Thursday, January 12, that a deal will soon be done with Yu Darvish before the end of next week.
The Japanese pitcher had attracted enormous attention after his impressive performance in the Japanese League. As was reported in these spaces, Darvish had received a $52 million deal bidding last month, which was exclusive.
"My expectations are we'll get something done," Ryan said prior to the Rangers Award Show at the Arlington Convention Center. "Where it stands today, I don't know. I've been in Phoenix all day and so I haven't talked to [general manager Jon Daniels]. It's
a process, and so during the period when we negotiate we don't really talk about it. But I'm optimistic we'll get something done."
All eyes are set on the talented player. However, the deal has its uncertainty. While most fans and the Rangers themselves will like to go ahead with this deal, there also stands a possibility of the negotiations not bearing any fruit in the end.
It all will end up in Darvish going to Japan at the end and the Rangers will not have to pay any money to the player if the deal does not see the light of the day. That is a distinct possibility that Ryan himself does not rule out during the talks.
"That's the nature of these things, going down to the wire," Ryan said. "So we'll just have to see how it works."
In Ryan’s view, however, Darvish has got what it takes as a pitcher to prevail on the field. With the likes of Derek Holland available to the Rangers, inclusion of Darvish will be a morale-booster for the bullpen, allowing the space for the Rangers to manoeuvre.
The Texas Rangers had qualified for the final of World Series in two consecutive years (2010 and 2011), but could not win the title in the end. Nevertheless, the new season will offer them a window of opportunity to attain that target.
