Texas Rangers defeat Chicago White Sox 2-1 – MLB Update
Texas Rangers rallied to beat the Chicago White Sox 2-1 at Rangers Ballpark on Wednesday, May 25.
Wednesday’s game was not affected by rain unlike the earlier encounter of the two teams that faced a three hour delay. However, the real victor of the game was C. J. Wilson who put in a brilliant performance to outplay Chicago’s offence.
Wilson, understandably excited with his feat, humorously expressed his delight and said, "I drove through some sort of a cyclone at 11 o'clock," Wilson said. "It was the most exciting driving experience I've had on the streets. I was in my truck, going sideways
and stuff."
However, the game was certainly not as easy as it might appear. Texas got an early lead, as Chicago’s offence was unwilling to easily give up. They fought back, however – much to their disappointment, luck was not on their side.
The predictably unreliable 2-0 lead is always faced with an unlikely situation. "Anytime you're hanging on to a one-run lead with runners on base, your heart beats faster," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "But bottom line, he got the three outs we needed."
Wilson kept a solid foundation with his unhittable fastballs when he started the game. Chicago’s offence struggled to play him while the starting pitcher unleashed his effective weapon. The Rangers, on the other hand, had a surprise to offer Chicago.
Mitch Moreland scored the first run for the Rangers in the third inning. He hit a sacrifice fly to centre-field to give an early lead to his team. Ian Kinsler followed in the same inning when he took Gavin Floyd to task and singled to left-centre to take
the lead 2-0.
The early lead was successfully defended by Wilson. Throwing well into seventh inning, Wilson kept Chicago’s hitters in check. When Paul Konerko scored the first run for Chicago, bringing the lead down to 2-1, Mark Lowe replaced him to pitch a shut-out eighth
inning.
The White Sox, hoped to turn things down for the Rangers and had a chance in the last inning to succeed. However, Neftali Feliz pitched the ninth inning with equal efficacy and brought the Rangers a 2-1 victory one day after Chicago won beat them 8-6.
It will be interesting to see how the Texas Rangers carry their winning momentum into their next few games. Chicago will have to pull it together to put in a better performance on the field.
