Texas Rangers defeat Detroit Tigers 5-2 in rubber competition - MLB Update
Texas Rangers romped to a 5-2 win in the rubber game against Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Thursday August 4, to avoid three-game series sweep.
Rangers took the game into their hands right from the top of the second inning, when Mitch Moreland grounded into double play, allowing Nelson Cruz to score the game opening run. This run took the Rangers’ confidence to a great height and their starter Alexi
Ogando provided destructing support to their batters.
In the top of the fourth inning, Mike Napoli added an RBI single for second run, and then Erik Chavez hit a sacrifice fly to centre and Michael Young scored. Ian Kinsler followed with his line drive single to centre, allowing Mitch Moreland to score the
fourth run of the game to take a 4-0 lead. After a delay of two innings, the Michael Young added the fifth run with his triple to deep-right in the top of the seventh.
Ogando kept his stunning pitches to seventh inning in which he allowed his only two runs on eight hits and struck-out seven batters to get his eleventh win of the season. His performance improved his record to 11-5 with a 2.88 ERA.
"We played a good game, we pitched a good game, but Ogando was just too good for us," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "He wasn't in the All-Star Game by accident."
Darren Oliver, Koji Uehara and Mike Adams carried the stint with their brilliant pitching. Adams tossed full inning to work one-hitter and Neftali Feliz worked a no-hitter last innings to get his 22nd save of the season.
"My blood pressure was way down today," said Adams, acquired from the San Diego Padres on Sunday. "The other night I was all over the place but today felt more comfortable."
Tigers’ Brad Penny gave away five runs on eleven hits and walked three batters over six innings to bear his ninth loss of the season. Although his reliever Duane Below and Al Alburquerque each remained scoreless over their single innings in the last half
of the game, the Tigers’ batting could not generate enough power to take their team back into the game.
