Texas Rangers defeat Houston Astros 7-3 – MLB Update
The Texas Rangers overpowered the Houston Astros 7-3 in what was an epic game of baseball at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas on Tuesday, June 28.
The Rangers marched victoriously in the Minute Maid Park amid the large crowd jeering at them. The game could have been a close encounter had Jordan Lyles, the starting pitcher for Astros, not leaked five runs in the six innings that he pitched.
Lyles was down on confidence and his lack of precision with the pitching was worthy evidence. He managed only two strike-outs and leaked ten hits in the process. His ERA of 4.75 highlights his pitiable performance which led to his third loss of the season
with no wins recorded thus far.
Enerio Del Rosario and Aneury Rodriguez chipped in as relief pitchers for the Astros but Rodriguez went for two runs in the two innings he pitched. Beating seven runs is a hard task, especially with the quality of pitchers the Rangers have in their arsenal.
C.J. Wilson started for the Rangers and put in a tremendous effort, as he conceded just two runs in seven innings with three strike-outs. The third strike-out took Wilson to 100 strike-outs this season. This outstanding display earned Wilson his eighth win
of the season, taking his record to 8-3.
The relief pitchers played their role efficiently. The only other run for the Astros came off Yoshinori Tateyama with Neftali Feliz saving his 15th of the season.
The Houston side opened the scoring with Michael Bourn scoring in the first innings. The Rangers, on the other hand, took time to gain momentum in their hitting. They finally got it in the third inning, yielding three runs, riding on Josh Hamilton’s massive
406-feet hit.
The Rangers added two more in the sixth innings courtesy Mitch Moreland and Yorvit Torrealba. With the scorecard now reading 5-1, the Astros managed to score again in the sixth innings but this attempt was short-lived as Houston were confined to this run
only by Wilson.
Moreland continued his hitting extravaganza and opened his arms for a 342-feet homer in the eighth inning to take the score to 6-2 and the game almost in their bag. Ian Kinsler added insult to injury when he belted a 348-feet home-run to complete seven runs
for the night and his nine home-runs for the season.
Clint Barmes did not accept this loss easily and scored in the ninth inning for the Astros. He was the only hitter to score in the ninth innings for his team and with at least four more runs required to level things, this effort was in vain.
The Rangers are now one ahead in the three-game series with the next game scheduled for Wednesday, June 29.
