Texas Rangers defeat Los Angeles Angels 9-5 – MLB Update
Texas Rangers romped to a 9-5 triumph over the Los Angeles Angels in the third outing at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Sunday, August 28 to take the three-game series 2-1.
Rangers’ Ian Kinsler, Elvis Andrus and Josh Hamilton played brilliantly to take the Rangers to their 76th win of the season. Second baseman Kinsler scored three runs and one RBI on one hit in four at-bats and short-stop Andrus added two runs and two RBIs
on three hit over five at-bats while centre-fielder Josh Hamilton earned two runs and three RBIs on three hits over his four at-bats.
Catcher Yorvit Torrealba led the game for the Rangers with his 427-feet long one-run homer in the second inning. This hit reduced the Rangers trail to 2-1. Elvis Andrus touched a triple scoring Ian Kinsler in the third and Josh Hamilton followed his with
a 430-feet long devastating homer for two runs to tie the outing at 4-all in the third inning.
It was the reliever for the Rangers’ camp as they were under great pressure.
"It was huge for us because we feed off of Josh," manager Ron Washington said. "Elvis hits the triple, then Josh comes right behind that and hits a two-run bomb to tie it up. That's exciting right there, and energizing."
Kinsler added another RBI in the seventh and Hamilton followed him again, but this time for an RBI single for taking 6-5 lead. Eric Chavez drove in a single to shallow centre, Andrus and Hamilton scored. Andrus added the last RBI reaching on infield single
to second base, scoring Ian Kinsler.
"We kept battling. We have that never-say-die mentality," Hamilton said. "That energizes us, makes us feel we can come back and win."
Rangers’ Darren Oliver tossed a brilliant seventh inning, when the Angels were looking break a tier and get some lead. Oliver gave only one hit over his single inning to get his fifth win of the season. After him, Mike Adams and Neftali Feliz each threw
hitless innings to get the Rangers into another win.
Angels’ starter Jered Weaver had a bad outing, as he scattered seven runs on eight hits and walked four batters over six innings. It was his seventh loss of the season with a 2.28 ERA.
The Angels are now far behind the AL leader Boston Red Sox, who is dominating with 82 wins. The Angels will have to put in some extraordinary performances to confirm their entry in the post-season.
