Texas Rangers demolish Baltimore Orioles 14-3 – MLB Update
Texas Rangers demolished Baltimore Orioles 14-3 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Monday, May 7 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Brandon Snyder displayed some high quality hitting skills to play a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash. Adrian Beltre and Nelson Cruz made the most of available opportunities in the second inning to put the Rangers 2-0 ahead.
Michael Young hit a sacrifice fly to right and Ian Kinsler scored the third run for Texas. Mike Napoli, Young and Cruz and Snyder continued to pressurise their opponents’ and they helped the Rangers secure an impassable 7-0 lead in the sixth inning.
"He got us a big two-out RBI hit. We certainly needed that," Rangers’ Manager Ron Washington said. "Then he gave us a three-run bomb that gave us a cushion, and then he drove in another one. He gave us what we needed."
For the Orioles, the first run was scored by Robert Andino who homered to left centre to reduce the deficit to 1-7. Wilson Betemit and Matt Wieters scored two more runs in the seventh to keep the Orioles in the game at 3-7.
Baltimore’s pitchers struggled to execute their game plan and they were punished by the Rangers’ strong batting lineup. Starting pitcher Brian Matusz had a forgettable time on the mound as he allowed seven runs and ten hits in 5 plus innings to take his
first loss of the season.
"That's not something our guys or I'm going to dwell on. It's part of what we do for a living. You get thrown some self-inflicted things that you have to deal with and nobody's going to feel sorry for you. Hopefully get a good night's rest and turn the page,"
Orioles’ Manager Buck Showalter said.
With momentum on their side, the Rangers continued to score freely and they added seven more runs to their final total to establish complete control over the contest. Texas’ starter Matt Harrison secured his fourth win of the season after he allowed just
three runs and seven hits and a walk in seven innings.
