Texas Rangers devastated by Colorado Rockies 7-11 at Rangers Ballpark – MLB Update
Texas Rangers were devastated by Colorado Rockies 7-11 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas on Sunday, June 23 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Rangers’ starting pitcher Colby Lewis had a horrible time on the mound and the Rockies took complete advantage of his errors. The starter allowed pitched four hopeless innings and the Rockies raced to an impassable 8-0 lead.
Nelson Cruz homered to left in the fourth inning to put the Rangers on the board. Adrian Beltre and Michael Young had RBI singles in the fifth to keep Texas’ hopes alive. Cruz added a three run home run in the fifth inning to reduce Rockies lead to 11-6
but the effort was never going to be enough.
"Trying to give the kid the opportunity to be involved in the decision," Manager Jim Tracy said. "He had done very well, and you know something, I gave him that rope and a little bit more. I gave him Josh Hamilton, I gave him Adrian Beltre, I gave him Michael
Young, and the inning was still going."
"I give him Nelson Cruz and he hits the ball in the bullpen off that kid, then personally for me, I've done it wrong," Tracy said. "But I tried to get him that fifth inning, really, really hard."
The win will be of great importance for the Rockies who have struggled to win games on regular basis since the start of the season.
Of course, Colorado has the capability and the capacity to beat even the best in the business but for some uncanny reason, they have not been able to perform under pressure this season.
It will be interesting to see if the Rockies can take some confidence from their win on Sunday afternoon to change the course of their campaign.
Texas Rangers, on the other hand, will be disappointed to lose in front of their home crowd. Without a shadow of a doubt, they are the favourites to win this year’s World Series title and it will not be a surprise to anyone if they hammer the Rockies in
the finale to avenge their defeat.
