Texas Rangers expect to re-sign C. J. Wilson – MLB News
The Texas Rangers’ general manager Jon Daniels expected on Monday, November 14 that his club will be able to re-sign their pitcher C. J. Wilson. A free agent, the 16 game-winner has already attracted attention of several teams which want him to be part of
their club.
Among others, the two teams which have aggressively pursued C. J. Wilson lately are the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels. However, the Texas Rangers, which remained the runner-up in this year’s World Series, losing to the St. Louis Cardinals by 4-3,
hope they will retain C. J. Wilson.
Daniels realises the fact that Wilson has his options, but he is prepared for all possibilities. "We would like to have him back," Daniels said. "We know he's in a great position. He'll explore his options. We'll prepare for both possibilities."
The 30-year-old Wilson had an impressive year whereby he was fourth in American League with 16 wins to his credit and losing only seven games in the 34 games that he appeared for the Texas Rangers. Pitching 223.1 innings, he maintained a 2.94 ERA with 206
strike-outs to his credit, with a 1.19 WHIP and a .232 BAA.
Rangers are said to be making all preparation to go into the 2012 regular season with renewed zeal, as they have some of the most dependable players in the League. While there are a lot of big names available in free agency, starting from Albert Pujols to
Prince Fielder, the Rangers want to exercise their options carefully.
Nolan Ryan, the principal owner, CEO and president of the Texas Rangers, stated last week that the Rangers were not looking for deals spanning eight years with big names.
"Making a seven- or eight-year deal for Fielder or Pujols is not something our organization is prepared to do," Ryan told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I very much expect Mitch Moreland to be our first baseman next year."
With too many options available, there is a likelihood of distraction. However, the Rangers are focused and want to opt for the safer options instead of choosing one that may ultimately result in prolonged stretches of struggle.
