Texas Rangers eyeing CC Sabathia as possible replacement for C.J. Wilson – MLB News
C.J. Wilson has been more than impressive for the Texas Rangers this season. He led the bull-pen in the regular season and has been an inspirational figure in the playoffs as well. However, with free agency looming, the Rangers are likely to lose their ace
this winter.
As a replacement for their ace, the Rangers are eyeing New York Yankees’ CC Sabathia, who now has the freedom to exercise the opt-out clause of his contract. Hungry for success, Yankees’ ace will be more than satisfied with the consistency of Rangers, especially
after the team made it to its second successive American League Championship Series and is now just a win away from the World Series.
Not worried by any financial constraints, the Rangers are expected to make a handsome offer for the left-handed pitcher, who led the Yankees in the regular season but could not replicate his winning ways in the playoffs, losing to Detroit Tigers in the all-important
Game 5 of the AL Division Series.
A major reason for Sabathia’s dip in form has been the lack of depth in the bull-pen. With Ivan Nova the only other dependable option in the bull-pen, Sabathia’s performance has always remained under the radar. He boasts an impressive record with the Yankees,
going 59-23 at a 3.18 ERA in his three-years with the franchise. 19 of these wins came in 2011, but his performance in September was not decent.
A source, wishing to remain anonymous, said, "I hear they're going to throw a boatload of money at him. But I think he'll stay with the Yankees. He's talked so much about how much he loves New York, and besides, the Yankees can't afford to lose him from
that pitching staff.''
Sabathia signed a 161-million-dollar seven-year deal with the Yankees and is eligible to opt-out of it three days after the World Series ends. A workhorse by nature, Sabathia will suit Nolan Ryan’s requirements for a perfect ace.
Nevertheless, nothing is final yet and there has been no comment from both parties whatsoever. The Yankees will try to lure their ace, but Sabathia prefers success.
