Texas Rangers face their hardest challenge waiting for American League Division Series opponent
The Texas Rangers had done their part on making it to the playoffs with a home field advantage. The club beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-1 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim on Wednesday, September 28 to secure their home plate advantage in the American Division
League Series.
The team however faced a tougher task in finding out which team they will be facing in the post-season. Two players took the opportunity to talk about the situation on Thursday, September 29 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
The Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays were tied for the Wild-Card Berth position in the American League and the winner was determined on Wednesday when one team lost and other won their respective bout.
"We had the bus time at 8:50 (PT), so we were trying to push that bus time back as far as we could, trying to give Chris Lyngos, our travel secretary, a hard time and try to watch the end of those games, but we couldn't get it in," second baseman Ian Kinsler
said.
The Red Sox were beaten by the Baltimore Orioles at 9:03 p.m. Pacific Time, while the Rays managed a surprise win over the New York Yankees a little while later. The Rays won 8-7 against the Yankees to qualify for the series and the Rangers got the news
in their bus trip to the airport.
"We were watching the game after our game, and to see the craziness of those two games," short-stop Elvis Andrus said. "We found out before we took off. Everybody was really amazed. It was a great run for them."
The Rays’ surprise come back from an average season was displayed in their final game as the club managed seven runs in the eighth and the ninth inning at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. The winning run came in the 12th inning when Evan Longoria
managed a home-run against the Yankees’ pitcher, Scott Proctor.
The club’s ability to stay resilient against top teams will be tested against the Rangers at Rangers Ballpark when both teams face off for Game 1 of the American League Division Series.
