Texas Rangers’ fan Shannon Stone laid to rest – MLB News
The 39-year-old Texas Rangers’ fan Shannon Stone who died last week while trying to catch a baseball was laid to rest on Monday, July 11. The young fire-fighter who lost the game of life while watching the match was honoured by a number of people.
The unfortunate fan who led an exemplary life while remaining an epitome of professionalism was in his department voted twice for being the Fire-fighter of the Year by his colleagues. Such was his committed devotion to his profession that he made quick ascension.
From the time he entered into this profession, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant, and also rendered service as the rescue technician at Texas Motor Speedway while being a paramedic as well.
The hurricanes of disproportionate magnitude – like Katrina and Ike, were the ones that forced him to indulge in disaster relief as well.
Owing to the selfless service Stone capably rendered, his death was no less than a huge shock for the people of his own town. Flags have been at half-mast since Friday in the memory of the competent and admired fire-fighter, and an ardent Texas fan.
"We're a small town," Brownwood mayor Stephen Haynes said. "We're not [small] enough that everyone knows everyone, but we are small enough that everyone is impacted in some way. Everyone has a friend or family member who was close to that family."
His funeral drew members from every walk of life. The burial not only brought his family members and friends, but also colleagues from his department and the big names of the Texas Rangers’ club as well.
Known for his jolly mood, a serene disposition and being a down-to-earth person, Stone’s departure was met with great shock and disbelief. Stone was attending the game with his 6-year-old son when the unfortunate tragedy unveiled in the horrible way possible.
Once he fell while attempting to catch the ball, he was quickly taken to the hospital where it was hoped that he might survive. However, it eventually transpired that Stone had received fatal injuries to his head to have any hopes of survival.
The most missed part, according to his family and friends, would be the love he had for his young son. “All of them were basically about his personality, capturing him and his love for his family, especially his son,” Russek said. “His wife - and he didn’t
have any more kids because he didn’t know if he had any more love left in him for another child to share.”
The atmosphere was sad as family and friends remembered Stone for the kind hardworking person that he was. He will be missed by family and friends.
