Texas Rangers favoured to prevail in Game 3 against St. Louis Cardinals – MLB Update
While the Texas Rangers are favoured to win Game 3 of the World Series against St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday, October 22 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas, the Redbirds cannot be ruled out even before the game has begun.
The first two games were close encounters and could have gone either way. The Cardinals prevailed in Game 1, but the Rangers marched back strongly to win Game 2 with a ninth inning rally and thus split the series.
Rangers’ shortstop Elvis Andrus, who has been phenomenal throughout the postseason, commented that a lot of people expected this World Series to be an offensive affair, but it has proved to be defensive thus far.
A major reason for this has been the fact that hitters are facing pitchers whom they have never played against prior to this and thus experts believe that as the series progresses, the line-ups will start to perform.
The Rangers will start with Matt Harrison in an attempt to take a handy lead in the seven-game series. However, with conditions supporting hitters, odds of Rangers winning the game through defence remain at a bare minimum.
“I have my game plan and there's ways I like to pitch, too,” Harrison said. “I love listening to the scouting reports and everything we have, but I'll go with what's working for me that day, and if I get beat with that, I get beat with that.”
Harrison has not been impressive in the postseason thus far and will desperately want to add a win to his credentials. However, he will need immense support from the bull-pen and they will have to aim at going deep into the game.
The Cardinals will counter with Kyle Lohse, who is geared-up to replicate Chris Carpenter’s effort from game 1. The conditions will not be easy for Lohse and he will not have time to adjust to them either. He said, "It's a tough place to pitch, especially
when you see those flags blowing in. It usually means that jet stream is going to right-centre. I think everyone in the league knows that."
After failing in Game 2, Cardinals’ closer Jason Motte will be roaring to make a comeback in Game 3. It will be interesting to see how the Rangers counter the Redbirds.
