Texas Rangers fight past Oakland Athletics 6-3 to level series – MLB Update
Texas Rangers fought back strongly to beat Oakland Athletics 6-3 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland, California on Tuesday, June 5 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Rangers’ offence made things look extremely simple. Ian Kinsler had an RBI Double to deep left in the third inning to give his side a crucial 2-0 lead. Josh Hamilton doubled to deep centre in the same inning to make the score
3-0.
Michael Young tripled to deep right in the fifth to help the Rangers establish complete control over the contest. For Oakland, Yoenis Cespedes homered to left in the sixth to reduce Rangers’ lead to 3-5 but the effort did not prove
to be enough.
Derek Holland may have a stomach virus that has caused him to lose several pounds of weight but his performances on the field seem to be unaffected. Holland struck out two, walked two and gave up just three runs on seven hits in
six plus innings.
"It was my job to go out there as long as I could despite the fatigue," said Holland. "I'm not freaked out about it. I'm on some medication. I'm kind of puzzled by it."
"The thing I'm most proud of is we were aggressive on the basepaths," manager Ron Washington said.
"We had no ill effect from it," Washington said. "We bounced back today with a real aggressive ballgame."
"He's the Joe Nathan I saw in Minnesota and hated to see come into the ballgame," Washington said of Nathan who made his 12th save of the season.
The A’s, who dominated their opponents in the opener, looked short of answers on Tuesday evening and the Rangers took complete advantage of the situation to level series at 1-1. It was Oakland’s eighth defeat in their last ten
games and they are now placed at the bottom of the American League West standings.
Ron Washington and company, on the other hand, will be very happy with the way they conducted themselves after getting hammered in first game of this series. With 33 wins and an impressive .589 win percentage, they are placed comfortably
at the top of the table.
