Texas Rangers focus on pitching – MLB News
The Texas Rangers’ general manager Jon Daniels stated on Saturday, November 26 that the club currently has their emphasis on pitching, not offence alone. A good pitching mix for Daniels will enable the Rangers to get effectively more competitive than their
rival teams in the upcoming season.
Despite the fact that the Rangers have been eagerly looking for retaining their quality pitchers and finding the strong and reliable arm for pitching, they might not be able to re-sign C. J. Wilson, a free-agent pitcher right now having been a Rangers hurler.
But even if he leaves, the Rangers probably have a reliable pitcher in Neftali Feliz who the club will activate. The fact that they signed a contract with Joe Nathan allows them more space to re-energise the bull-pen.
From Feliz to every new pitcher that the Rangers shall have in the days to come, what it clearly manifests on the Rangers behalf is the willingness to invest and expect from the pitching once the next season kicks off.
While scoring runs is important, so is the pitchers’ ability to hurl quality pitches and strengthen the side.
"Neftali is 6-3, 235 pounds, he holds his velocity, he has a great delivery and the makings of a good pitch mix," says Daniels. “Everyone talks about the way we can score runs. But the emphasis clearly is on pitching. If you look at our 40-man roster, 23
of the 38 players right now are pitchers."
Defence, like Daniels has been emphasising, is also a priority. "We try to balance the present and the future," says Daniels, which is what exactly signing a contract with the Joe Nathan has brought for the Texas Ranger.
From the emphasis that the different teams have been laying on the pitching, what is clear now is that the next season will be a tough battle for the offence to effectively go against the pitchers whom the club is enthusiastically hiring.
The energy and creativity being exhibited currently will be a feature of next year’s Major League, something that the avid fans of baseball eagerly await to witness when their favourite and rival teams face each other.
