Texas Rangers go past the Seattle Mariners with 11-5 victory—MLB Update
Yu Darvish struggled in his MLB debut, but held his nerves to help the Texas Rangers beat the Seattle Mariners by 11-5 on Monday, April 09. The starter had trouble in the very first inning wherein he gave up four runs in the 42 pitches that he hurled.
However, as the offence came forward to help boost the pitcher’s morale, Yu Darvish stormed his way back into the game, retiring 10 of the hitters in row as he kept pitching till the sixth inning.
"Mentally, I was very calm, but my body felt like it wanted to go and go and go," Darvish said through his translator. "At the beginning of the game, my mind and my body kind of weren't on the same page."
Monday’s game had Darvish as its best feature, thanks to the sharp camera eyes focusing the tall pitcher in his debut. He realized it was no less than a battle that would go on to define his career.
"It was pretty much a battle all night," Darvish said. "Just knowing my offense, if I could string those zeroes together, they would answer for me."
The first inning, for the team manager, was the one that saw emotions. But Yu Darvish controlled it afterwards. "In the first inning, it just seemed like he couldn't get control of his emotions. He checked himself, and showed what kind of battler and warrior
he is," manager Ron Washington said.
Ian Kinsler did his bit in 4 at-bats, scoring 2 runs while Josh Hamilton had 3 hits in 5 at-bats as Adrian Beltre scored 2 in 5. Michael Young and Nelson Cruz scored a run each while Mike Napoli and Mitch Moreland scored 2 each to collectively add to the
Rangers’ 11 runs in the game.
Ichiro Suzuki of remained 5 at-bats scoring 2 runs with 3 hits to his credit, while Chone Figgins, Justin Smoke and Kyle Seager scored a run each for the Seattle Mariners.
Scott Feldman of the Rangers threw a scoreless 9th to seal the 11-5 victory for the Rangers, giving a 1-0 lead in the three-game series.
