Texas Rangers hammers 5 homers against Kansas City Royals, to win by 11-6 : MLB Update
The Texas Rangers’ batters had a remarkable day, as they hammered five homers to clinch a series opener against their league rival, the Kansas City Royals, by 11-6 at the Rangers Ballpark in Texas on Friday, April 22.
The Rangers’ manager Ron Washington was pleased with the batters and fielders, who combined to earn the twelfth win in Major League Baseball. Washington said. "We did a good job of just keeping it in the big part of the field," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "By doing that, we were able to centre some balls and do some good things."
Michael Young led off the game with runs batted in (RBI) single each in first and third inning. Adrian Beltre drove in an RBI to deep right centre. Mike Napoli then took the lead to 5-0 launching a splendid homer and starting the flurry of the home runs. Ian Kinsler hammered in fourth followed by David Murphy, Beltre and Moreland who launched one-run homer each in fifth, sixth and seventh inning.
The Royals’ hitters retaliated effectively and posted five runs in fourth inning. Jeff Francoeur and Wilson Betemit added an RBI single, while Brayan Pena touched a 37ft three-run-homer to the right field, off the Rangers’ well going starter, Derek Holland. Betemit added one more run in eighth inning, but until now the Rangers had taken the game into their side having a lead of 11-6.
The Royals’ manager Ned Yost was pleased with the batters, but he had to acknowledge the better batting strategy of the Rangers. Yost said, "They were much more proficient at utilizing the jet stream than we were. They actually hit a couple of good pitches. We just got a couple up. They're a tremendous fly ball-hitting team with a lot of pop, a lot of power."
The game was not in favour of pitchers, as both starters remained expensive. The Royals’ bowler, Jeff Francis, pitched four innings, allowed six runs on nine hits including two homers and walked one while made just two strikeouts. The Rangers’ starter, Holland, was pitching brilliantly until he received five runs in fourth inning. However, he retaliated impressively, did not allow any hit in his last three innings, and took out nine batters.
The Rangers might have gone into bad situation if the relievers and closer could have not tossed shutout innings. Arthur Rhodes remained scoreless and closer Darren Oliver tossed one-hit scoreless to save the game.
On the other, the Royals’ relievers could not display any special performance and kept allowing home runs. Blake Wood received one homer in fifth and Nate Adcock permitted two in sixth innings that created a wide unbeatable lead for batters. The closer, Jeremy Jeffress, however, succeeded to earn save making two strikeouts without giving any run.
