Texas Rangers hitters Michael Young, Ian Kinsler and Josh Hamilton shave off beards prior to Game 4
The Texas Rangers recently picked up a 7 – 3 win over the Detroit Tigers in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series at the Comerica Park in Detroit. The club did extremely well to go 3 – 1 up in the tournament. Now the Rangers are just one win
away from a World Series qualification.
However one thing was different about the club on Wednesday, October 12. Josh Hamilton, Michael Young and Ian Kinsler were without their beards. All three players told the press recently that they decided to shave off their facial hair, after Game 3 of the
series.
The move to keep a beard was has ignited a lot of fanfare over the past few years. One can look back at San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson’s beard. The fan support was strong and gave the Giants the necessary morale to win the World Series. The move
however has not done wonders for the Rangers’ hitters.
"I wasn't the only one," Young said. "Me, Kins and Josh, we all took them down. We were the only ones doing the playoff thing who aren't used to having beards. So it stunk. It itched. I got a lot of guff from Mike Napoli, Mitch Moreland and Craig Gentry,
but they wear their beards year round, so it was easy for them to take a shot.
"We talked about it last night. We all agreed last night to take them down. My wife was happy that I shaved. She was tired of it."
If one would think shaving off beards paid off, it did in some way. Statistics show improvement in the hitters’ performance on Wednesday. Young went to .118 with a hit from five At-Bats. That hit however provided an RBI that got Elvis Andrus home for the
third run of the club.
Ian Kinsler gained a 1 – for – 4 knock. He also got a walk. He managed to score and drive in a run for the club. On the other hand, Josh Hamilton went 1 – for – 5. He produced a run for the club, as well.
All in all, in shaving their beards, the three hitters did provide the club the necessary contribution to pull off an exciting win.
