Texas Rangers’ hitters react after 4-3 win over Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3 – MLB Playoffs
The Texas Rangers were on cloud nine on Monday, October 3 as the club managed to take the lead in the American League Division Series with a 2-1 margin over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3.
The club put a brave show on the pitch as Colby Lewis pitched six innings to walk off with just one run conceded in the match. His opponent, David Price, did not do well as his seventh inning stint yielded four runs for the Rangers.
Mike Napoli smashed a two-run homer against Price to put the Rangers in the lead and then Josh Hamilton smashed a two-run RBI single to right-field, to put the club on 4-1. The score line was then well defended by the Rangers’ bullpen as the Rays fought
back with two runs. The home team eventually lost the game when Neftali Feliz worked the opposition into a game ending double play in the ninth.
The excitement at Tropicana Field was intense as the Rangers held on to a nerve wrenching winner even after Desmond Jennings smashed a defiant solo homer in the eighth to keep his team alive.
"Oh, my God, my heart is still pounding," short-stop Elvis Andrus said. "That was a great game. That's what you would expect."
Michael Young had comments for Lewis, who moved to 4-0 in the post-season games.
"Colby was great," designated hitter Michael Young said. "That was fun. Those last three innings are what playoff baseball is all about."
Another hitter had a few words to spare on the victory that went the Texans’ way.
"This is the reason you play," first baseman Mitch Moreland said. "Just another great team effort."
The Rangers are now on the verge of qualifying for the American League Championship Series. They need just one more win and they have their eyes set on Game 4. The Rangers will be looking to put in a brilliant performance and dominate the Rays in the much
anticipated game. Only time will tell if the Rangers can take another victory over the powerful Rays in Game 4.
