Texas Rangers humiliate Baltimore Orioles 13-4 in an epic display of teamwork – MLB Update
The Texas Rangers marched victoriously in Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas as they obliterated the Baltimore Orioles 13-4 in an astonishing display of teamwork on Monday, July 4.
The Orioles did not seem to be a Major League team as their incompetence at the mound and plate was readily cashed in by the Rangers.
Baltimore’s starter, Chris Jakubauskas had the worst outing of his career. He could throw for just two innings before the pitching staff rightly removed him from the mound. His replacements, however, were not fruitful either and the humiliation continued.
Jakubauskas gave up seven hits and six massive runs inside the first two innings to virtually end the night for the Orioles. His ERA at 6.75 is just not satisfactory at the MLB standards, as he was justly handed his second loss for the season. The highlights
of the first six-runs were home-runs by Endy Chavez and Adrian Beltre, registering their third and 16th home-runs for the season respectively.
Alfredo Simon replaced Jakubauskas at the mound but the Rangers had no sympathy for anyone. The Rangers continued their bullying act at the plate and Simon was handed nine hits and another six runs in the 4.1 innings that he lasted on the pitching embankment.
Errors came in plenty as Simon added five more to Jakubauskas’s six. David Murphy, Michael Young and Adrian Beltre were the star batters for the Rangers.
Texas had a lot more to offer at the mound than their counterparts. Colby Lewis started for the Rangers and commanded authority with his pitching. In a night where runs were raining, Lewis gave away just three runs and five hits in seven innings of quality
pitching. His four strike-outs for the night take his season tally to 87. Two of the three runs he conceded came in as home-runs from Mark Reynolds and J.J. Hardy.
With a job well-done, Lewis was replaced by Darren O’Day and Arthur Rhodes who pitched in an inning apiece to see things off. O’Day could not stop Reynolds from smashing his second homer of the game for the fourth run of Baltimore’s side. Reynolds now has
six home-runs in his last five games. Rhodes was impressive nonetheless and did not concede any hit or run in the last inning. The Rangers had only four errors in the game as compared to 12 by the Orioles.
This dreary pitching performance by the Orioles has now forced them to call up right-handed pitcher Mitch Atkins from Triple-A affiliate Norfolk. Atkins is expected to make his first start in the Majors in the next game.
The Rangers are now one-game ahead with a lot of confidence in their bag for the next match of the three-game series scheduled for Tuesday, July 5.
