Texas Rangers improve winning streak as they beat Seattle Mariners 7-3 – MLB Update
The American League’s Texas Rangers has emerged as the most proficient team in Major League Baseball as they defeated the Seattle Mariners 7-3 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Wednesday, April 6.
The Rangers compelled critics to praise their performance when they acquired their sixth-straight win of the season as they beat the Mariners.
With this triumph, the Rangers also shattered the Mariners’ starting pitcher Felix Hernandez’s winning streak. The 24-year-old AL Cy Young Award winner, Hernandez made his second start of season and went for four runs before managing six strike-outs. Despite
making a strong come back after an expensive second inning, the pitcher could not protect the outing.
"It was the wind first, I couldn't get my balance. But after that I felt good. All the pitchers were working," Hernandez said. "I know they're gonna swing anyway, so I just have to make good pitches. It was pretty good today, I got seven innings."
The Mariners achieved early lead in first inning but could not take advantage of it.
The Rangers, while chasing a one run deficit, entertained the spectators with their tremendous contribution with the bat. With David Murphy at third and Yorvit Torrealba at second, Ian Kinsler grounded a tying single to third that set Murphy into scoring
position. Torrealba and Moreland then took the advantage to 3-1 achieving an RBI single when Elvis Andrus grounded into fielder’s choice to short-stop.
Adrian Beltre, who made one run in four at-bats, commented on Moreland and said, "It was OK. He made a better play than I did because it was a tough hop I threw over there, a little two-seamer low," said Beltre. "Every time he does that I owe him a dinner."
Centre-fielder Michael Saunders with an RBI single helped the Mariners retaliate in the fifth inning. He received positive back up by designated hitter Jack Cust who turned the outing into an interesting situation with his tying single to right-field.
It was the complete collapse of pitchers as the Mariners’ reliever Chris Ray, tossed just seven pitches and went for two hits that charged his club a two-run deficit in the eighth. The game slipped from the Mariners’ hands when closer Brandon League allowed
another run in his small spell.
In the end, it was the dominating performance by the Rangers as they took a hard fought victory from the Mariners. The Rangers continue with their impressive winning streak, as they have managed to carry their momentum forward. The Mariners will be looking
to improve their performance and try to get their offence sorted and become more competitive during the beginning part of the regular season.
