Texas Rangers in favour of additional team for Wild Card – MLB News
The Texas Rangers seem fascinated by the idea of expanding postseason teams. On Thursday, March 1, the team’s second baseman Ian Kinsler termed the idea, proposed by Major League Baseball and the Players Association, a great one, saying it will add a tremendous
amount of excitement.
"It would be great," second baseman Ian Kinsler said. "It would add a huge amount of excitement. You see these games before -- where teams tied for the division or the Wild Card -- how much excitement there was over the one-game playoff. This would be really
good."
The plan, according to which both the American and National League will have an additional team for the postseason games, has already stirred immense enchantment. Virtually every team in the Division finds it an exciting and viable idea.
Years ago, the MLB had introduced and implemented the Wild Card rule. However, the Rangers have so far had won the Division titles without being the Wild Card team.
"Used to be if a team had the Wild Card locked up, they could start setting their rotation for the playoffs," Young said. "Now you have to do everything you can to win the division. You're in, you don't have to play a win-or-go-home game."
As the Texas Rangers have shown favour to the idea, the MLB will wait to see if there is complete consensus on it. As said earlier, for now, the players and teams in the MLB are showing inclination towards it.
However, unless there is a process of consultation and complete unanimity on it, there is a little possibility that it will go ahead and materialise. What addition of another team in the Division and Wild Card does is to develop pressure on the bigger teams
to not be content.
Much the same, it will be an added advantage as well, for the otherwise losing sides to avail the opportunity and get into the playoffs. As to what eventually happens is something that the fans and clubs will await with bated breath. However, there is little
doubt that it will increase the competition in both Leagues.
