Texas Rangers in talks with Roy Oswalt – MLB News
The Texas Rangers’ general manager Jon Daniels revealed on Monday, January 30, that the club has taken into consideration the name and role of Roy Oswalt. The free-agent pitcher has recently attracted attention of a number of clubs.
However, with the pitching line-up already quite strong, the Rangers has not extended any gesture that can be interpreted as the team’s eagerness to get the player installed in the team. There are reports that the Rangers will have a meeting with the Philadelphia
Phillies’ free-agent pitcher; which essentially is an exploratory talk.
"He's somebody we've talked about, but we're happy with our rotation and our pitching staff," Daniels said. "He's intriguing, but I'm not sure exactly how it fits."
The club, it is pertinent to mention here, has already had the likes of Alexi Ogando, Derek Holland, Colby Lewis, Yu Darvish, Matt Harrison, Scott Feldman and Neftali Feliz in the enviably strong pitching line-up, not to mention the robust offence that the
club has.
Nonetheless, almost desperately looking for their first ever World Series title, the Rangers are now well-built with their fortified rotation, as chances are bright for them. It is all about finding and adjusting the role of Roy Oswalt in the club.
Reports say that the pitcher is looking for the role of starting pitcher. That is something that the Rangers will have to closely look to accommodate. On the other hand, teams like the St. Louis Cardinals have also expressed their desire to get the free-agent
pitcher signed.
The Texas Rangers are currently sorting out the arbitration cases of three players; involving a big sum of $130 million. There are constraints that the Rangers have to look at prior to undertaking another endeavour at this juncture.
However, Roy Oswalt’s induction, which is not clear at this stage, will be a good omen for the Texas Rangers, making them a team very strong and resilient to defeat. If the Rangers decide to go for it, the team rivals will indeed have an unusually tough
time to counter the Rangers in the upcoming regular season.
