Texas Rangers’ infielders throw optimism on success with 3-4 defeat from Oakland Athletics
Jemile Weeks was on top of his game to put the Oakland Athletics 4-3 on top of the Texas Rangers on Thursday, September 23 at Oakland Coliseum. The visiting American League West leaders were on a personal mission as they were trying to cut their distance
from the playoffs. Two of the club’s infielders took the opportunity to talk to the press after the loss.
"We came here to win the series and we did that," Adrian Beltre said. "We're going home to win a series, and if we do that, we're in pretty good shape. We would have rather won the game today, but we didn't play well enough to win."
Rangers picked up a major 2-1 series win over the A’s and they will be looking to do the same in Arlington, when they head back home to take on the Seattle Mariners.
"We feel great where we're at, but we still have something to accomplish," second baseman Ian Kinsler said. "We've got to go home, continue to play good baseball and close it out as quickly as we can."
Los Angeles Angels are trying to cut their gap between the top position in the division and themselves. They lost a recent game to the Toronto Blue Jays and their difference in wins is five games. The Rangers needed three wins before their game on Thursday.
Now they need just two as the Angels struggle to secure ground against the Texans.
Beltre and Kinsler are both on fire at the moment. The two infielders have a combined home runs tally of 58 for the season. Beltre is two shy of hitting the 30 home-runs mark. Manager Ron Washington will be hoping for the two infielders to be on top of their
game when they face the Mariners and the Angels in the last two series.
The Athletics put in a decent performance as they managed a close victory over the Rangers. Texas will be looking improve their efforts against the Mariners and the Angels as they look to secure a post-season spot.
