Texas Rangers lead American League batting and pitching averages
The Texas Rangers will be ecstatic with their high batting average for the first four games. The team is leading the American League with 32 runs, 26 extra base hits and a .722 slugging percentage.
However, that is not the only major story to highlight the accomplishments of the 2010 American League Champions. They also have the lowest earning runs average (ERA) of 3.28.
The Rangers have a good rotation on hand at the moment. According to statistics that isn’t something the club would take for granted. With Cliff Lee moving out of the club in the offseason period, the management crew expected fallout in the rotation. With
C. J. Wilson and Colby Lewis on the first two slots, the Rangers looked strong, prior to the Opening Day contest.
However, the club had problems in the rest of the slots. It seems that is the thing of the past as Matt Harrison and Derek Holland have walked off the mound with victories as well. The two have just conceded four runs in just 13 innings of their start.
Wilson said:
"It's phenomenal. One of the reasons why we did so well last year was because I was our No. 3 guy going into the season, and then I pitched well. You expect the first two guys to win their starts. But to have Harrison and Holland go out there and keep our
team ahead the whole time and obviously pitch through some very difficult situations and come up big to the point where they maybe allowed one run at a time and didn't allow a big inning, that was really impressive.
It shows a lot of maturity for both of them".
Manager, Ron Washington, was able to talk of the major qualities in the team, from Arlington. He stated very clearly that the Rangers are not all about hitting. He told the press that there will be games where scores will be low. He clarified that the team’s
major strength is defence and pitching and that is where the focus lies as hitting can’t come consistently.
