Texas Rangers looking if a deal can be worked out with Josh Hamilton – MLB News
The Texas Rangers’ general manager Jon Daniels stated on Monday, January 30, the club was looking if a deal can be worked out with the All-Star outfielder Josh Hamilton. If a deal cannot be worked out right now, Daniels maintains, the Rangers shall focus
on it once the outfielder’s contract comes to end at the end of this season.
The eligibility of the outfielder as free-agent might well be a concern for the team. However, since neither the club nor Hamilton himself wants to be distracted with it for now, no rush is being displayed to finalise the deal.
"We value Josh, and he likes being in Texas," Daniels said. "We're going to have discussions to see if a deal can be worked out. If not, we'll focus on 2012 and revisit it later. I think the deadline makes a lot of sense. Josh has talked about it being a
distraction that we don't need. There will be enough other things going around."
It was in February last year that the Texas Rangers and Josh Hamilton signed a two year deal worth $13.75 million. While the player has on numerous occasions shown exceptionally good performances, it is the bane of injuries that the 30-year-old player is
fighting.
Nonetheless, quite interestingly, that which favours both the Texas Rangers and Josh Hamilton at the moment is their being some reasonable negotiations. Hamilton has not set any huge price tag right now for a deal.
Therefore, a lot shall depend on how Josh Hamilton performs this year. The susceptibility to injury is unavoidable. Hamilton will try his utmost to remain physically fit to bring about victories for the team throughout the season. If he stays fit, the Rangers
stand a good chance to attain many goals.
Josh Hamilton made an appearance in 121 games during the past season whereby the player had maintained a good average of .298. The player remained 487 at-bats to score 80 runs with 25 home-runs to his credit and 94 RBIs. Hamilton maintained a slugging percentage
of .536, which was the eighth best in the American League.
