Texas Rangers looking to cement their place in the playoffs within the next four games
The Texas Rangers were on top as they beat the Oakland Athletics 7-2 on Tuesday, September 20 at Oakland Coliseum.
The American League West leaders went to Oakland, five wins ahead of the Los Angeles Angels. With the recent victory, only four games need to be won in order to qualify. For all of the squad members, four is a very important.
The club’s designated hitter and long serving player, Michael Young, crossed 200 hits for the season on Tuesday but his focus was still on the games needed to beat in order to qualify. The number four has everyone in the squad thinking of the same thing
and the unofficial captain of the team stated it clearly.
"That's the most important number right now," Young said.
Adrian Beltre smashed a three run homer in the very first inning to put the club 3-0 against the A’s. His shot got the tempo rising in the club. He had a lot to say about the current situation as well.
"We're trying to win every game and keep the Angels from being able to do something crazy when we get to L.A.," said third baseman Adrian Beltre. "We hope to clinch it before then, but if not, we'll do it there."
Another infielder had a few words to share and his statement looked optimistic and confident.
"We'll get it done," Ian Kinsler said. "When we get it done ... we'd like to get it done as soon as possible. We'd like to do it at home; that would be awesome."
The Rangers look keen to hit the postseason again. Manager Ron Washington has put a lot of faith in his players and the experts are not ready to write off the club as a strong opponent for the World Series, this year.
If they finish on top, they will be going up against their last year American League Championship rivals, New York Yankees. Without Cliff Lee in the pitching rotation, it will be interesting to see how the club fares against the American League East Leaders.
