Texas Rangers lose to Baltimore Orioles 1-5 in Wild Card game – MLB Update
Texas Rangers lost the American League Wild Card playoff game against Baltimore Orioles 1-5 on Friday at Rangers Ballpark in Texas.
Orioles’ hammered the Rangers with big force and secured their place in the post season while in another Wild Card game, the last year’s World Series Champions, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Atlanta Braves.
"We just didn't get it done, I'm not stunned; I was right there watching it, To be honest with you, I never thought anything like this would happen," manager Ron Washington said on his team’s performance.
He added, "A little execution here and a little execution there in certain situations.”
Rangers played under pressure during the entire game and lost with bitter humiliation. They did not show any fighting spirit and were defeated with a four run deficit.
Rangers’ entire roster played defensively and did not attack Baltimore’s offensive batters as they eased past Texas side comprehensively.
Especially their pitching rotation was hammered with big hits. Starting from Yu Darvish, the Rangers tested Derek Holland, Koji Uehara and Joe Nathan, but they all disappointed and could not save the game.
Darvish pitched over six innings spell and received three runs and five hits. He struck-out seven but he could not remain consistent on his 2.70 ERA.
"Me and my teammates and the Rangers' fans, I don't think we all thought that it would end this early, I mean, right now, no. I don't even know what I'm supposed to do tomorrow," Darvish said through a translator.
Closer Joe Nathan pitched one inning and received two runs and two hits. He struck-out one while his ERA rose to 18.00 which eventually proved disastrous for the Rangers.
“We just fell into a funk, plain and simple, We know we're better than this, but we didn't play good when we needed to," closer Joe Nathan said.
Though the Rangers' batters did not play well, but still their few upfront hitters tried their best to score.
Second baseman Ian Kinsler batted three times and scored one run and smashed two hits on his .667 slugging percentage.
