Texas Rangers lose to Kansas City Royals 3-6 – MLB Recap
The Texas Rangers lost to Kansas City Royals 3-6 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, September 4 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
Rangers’ pitchers played poorly and lost the game with bitter humiliation. They did not show any fighting spirit and seemed tired on the field.
Matt Harrison started the game for the Rangers but was hammered with big hits. He allowed five runs and eight hits on his 4.2 innings spell. He struck-out three and was also smashed for a home-run on his 3.37 ERA.
His team-mate and closing pitcher Roy Oswalt did not play well and pitched way-ward. He tossed 2.1 innings and allowed one run and on hit. Though he struck-out four and received one home-run on his blistering 5.85 ERA.
Closing pitcher Mark Lowe also did not pitch accurately and lost the game for his team. He pitched one inning and received two hits on his 2.13 ERA.
On the other hand, the Royals' pitchers played well and earned a great victory for their team.
"That's a big play," Royals' manager Ned Yost said. "You're staring down the barrel of being down 3-0 and you've got an All-Star pitcher on the mound with a tremendous offensive club. To pick a runner off third base and keep it 2-0, you still feel like you've got a chance for something to happen, and it did."
Starter Jeremy Guthrie pitched seven innings and allowed only two runs only. He played well and showed his class. He received five hits and struck-out five Rangers' batters on his 3.70 ERA.
"The big momentum shift was the throw by Salvy," Guthrie said. "That was a huge sigh of relief for me. I scuffled up to that point. It gave me a big boost."
Relief pitcher Kelvin Herrera also supported his team-mate and starting pitcher Guthrie as he tossed one solid inning and allowed only one run and two hits. He struck-out one while his ERA remained consistent at 2.51 which also proved one of the winning factors for the Royals.
