Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington optimistic about Game 7 after close Game 6 defeat
The Texas Rangers could have ended their World Series campaign with a Game 6 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday, October 27, but a 10 – 9 loss in the 11th inning now means they will head over to Game 7 to try for a historic title
clinch. On a day when everything was looking great, the Texans gave up six runs in the last four innings to lose the match. The crowd at the Busch Stadium in St. Louis was strictly behind their team but the Rangers were looking strong too.
They combined a lot of firepower with willpower to put the club ahead, five times, but the Cards came back on all occasions to beat the challenge, put up by the visitors. One would have thought that Derek Holland’s two inning stint on the mound was an indication
of the focus put up by the Rangers but their composure through the later innings disappointed the Lone Star supporters.
When one looks back on Game 6, there will be moments when the Cardinals appear completely insane. With the level of effort put in the late innings, any baseball expert could tell the Rangers did not stand a chance. However Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington
guarantees that his squad will be back at the Busch Stadium in Game 7 to win the Series for the first time.
"Well, just tell them we battled. You know, it's not that easy to win a world championship, as we found out tonight. We had the right people in the right spot, and they beat us. You've got to give them credit. They fought tonight. They came back, and they
won the ballgame. That's all I had to tell them.
"We'll bounce back. We've been in some tough situations before. We've always responded, and I expect us to respond [Friday night].
"We've just got to come back and fight just as hard, because they certainly will."
If there is any team that could come back from a shocking Game 6 defeat, then it would surely be the Rangers. The question is: Can they do it?
