Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington speaks out on rainout delay in Game 6
Major League Baseball (MLB) declared on Wednesday, October 26, that Game 6 of the World Series between the Texas Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals at the Busch Stadium in St. Louis has been delayed to Thursday following a rain forecast. Texas manager Ron
Washington spoke on the decision afterwards and passed his opinion known to the press.
"We certainly don't want to be playing in bad weather," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "We certainly don't want to be starting and stopping. Tomorrow and Friday are supposed to be clear days so we'll have a chance to start and finish baseball.
"We know this is the World Series. Our mind-set is the same. It's baseball. If this was the regular season, it happens. It doesn't take away from our focus. We want to play baseball as much as Major League Baseball wants us to play. We'll come back tomorrow."
The MLB rules and regulations have a clear stipulation that a game interfered by rain is suspended indefinitely. While playing a game under rain forecast maybe considered a risk, many teams face the issue of stopping play during games due to rain showers.
For the World Series, it is better to shift the event to the very next day, instead.
The extra day of rest means both clubs will prepare their pitchers and hitters more for the Game 6 encounter. The Texans are poised to win as they lead the series, 3 – 2. The Cardinals however have the toughest task on hand as cropping up two straight wins
in the series is a mission many baseball experts would deem improbable against the Rangers.
The Cards however have the option to send in Chris Carpenter for Game 7 against the Rangers, after three days of rest. The only problem is that the Texans have their own maverick in the ranks that could jolt the Cards. Derek Holland, who pitched 8 1/3 scoreless
innings in Game 4, will be fully rested and he might show up in the bullpen in Game 7.
Game 6 will be an exciting encounter between two top clubs in their respective leagues and there is sure to be a lot of sting in play when the match commences.
