Texas Rangers may not go for bigger acquisitions this season – MLB News
The Texas Rangers’ general manager Jon Daniels has stated that he is not sure exactly how things will turn up because of some bonuses. Speaking to the media on the recent contracts with more than 19 players, Daniels shed some light on the apparent budget
constraints once other pre-arbitration-eligible players are contacted.
"I'm not sure exactly where we'll come out because of some [contract] bonuses," Daniels said. "Obviously, as far as in-season moves, things have a way of being moved around, but as of right now, we're over budget."
As a lot of important players are in line, the Texas Rangers have yet to make up their mind on how best to deal with the emerging situation. Whatever happens, it goes without saying, will heavily impact the future outlook of the team.
A lot, of course, will depend on the negotiations with the players over the contract. It is important to mention here that the Texas Rangers invested a total of over $115 million to sign 19 of the players.
The names that are now pre-arbitration-eligible players include that of Derek Holland, Mitch Moreland, Alexi Ogando and Neftali Feliz. All of the aforementioned players occupy a prominent place in the team.
Not only are they vital for the team’s victory, but also they make the team stronger in the League. Despite all these factors, the Rangers’ general manager does not evince any panic as he is immensely confident of the future handling of the issue.
"You never shut the door because there are always ways of being creative," Daniels said. "You can always sign players to Minor League non-roster contracts. But as we sit here right now, nothing is imminent."
Even though there may be less space available for maneuvering now, the Rangers still want to look for options. For the offseason, the team might not have enough finances to get a new player signed, something that the general manager accepted himself.
As the club will not be going for big acquisitions now, it is interesting to see how deeply it impacts the future course of the team and their regular season performance.
