Texas Rangers might be tempted to make the ‘big’ move – MLB Update
The Los Angeles Angels have drawn first blood in the free agent market and baseball experts now believe that the Texas Rangers will be tempted to make the counter move. The Angels signed big hitting player Albert Pujols on a record deal and added strength
to their bull-pen by striking a deal with former Rangers’ ace C.J. Wilson. The Rangers have an option to ink a deal with Prince Fielder and pitching sensation Yu Darvish, but the management is tempted to land a free agent first baseman instead of spending
heavily on areas which are already strong.
One reason for this has been the inflexibility in the Texas’ payroll and many believe that this will be a major hurdle in the team’s progress during the next season. The Rangers have featured in the previous two Fall Classics, but it seems unlikely that
the team will repeat this feat in the next season.
The Rangers are strong on the offensive front and have a decent rotation to back them in Major League Baseball, but need an overhaul at the defensive positions to stamp their authority at the highest level.
Fielder will be aiming to bag in around 150-million-dollars for his new contract and Darvish will be expecting a 100-million-dollar contract, both of which are something more than what the Rangers are willing to pay at this stage. Further, with the Angels
making the big move with crucial signings, the Rangers will lose their strength in the American League West division.
The Japanese pitcher will be very resourceful if the Rangers sign him to the rotation, but money will be one issue which will haunt the management. The Rangers have reportedly signed a 20-year 1.6-billion-dollar deal with FOX Sports Southwest, but the Angels
have gone a step ahead in signing a 20-year 3-billion-dollar deal with FOX Sports West which begins next season.
The Angels are now in a strong position to land all the big names, but it will be imperative to see whether this helps the team in earning a qualification for the playoffs. The Rangers will not adopt this strategy and the results of this will be seen sooner
than later.
