Texas Rangers move to sign Elvis Andrus – MLB News
The Texas Rangers took another step on Wednesday, February 8, to fill the 40-men roster by signing Elvis Andrus. The three year contract worth $14.4 million goes on to substantiate the fact that the Rangers see a tremendous short-stop in him.
Although the player has yet to demonstrate the splendour he is capable of, the Rangers positively maintain that Elvis has a ton of ability. That he has over the years, shown a good performance in the playoffs proves his excellence.
"Elvis represents everything we want the Texas Rangers to be about," assistant general manager Thad Levine said on a conference calling announcing the deal Wednesday. "He's a young player with extreme upside with a ton of enthusiasm and a ton of ability.
He has been a big part of our playoff run the past two years.”
It will be pertinent to also make a mention of Elvis being a part of the American League All-Star team back in 2010. There was an arbitration case pending and it was for this reason that the Rangers made a quick move.
Nonetheless, a few areas, potentially weak ones that he will be looking to work on is the defence. For instance, only the past season saw him being on top in the American League with 25 errors; something that the Rangers will definitely want him to overcome
this season.
Andrus vows he will be doing better as he has learnt a lot from last three years’ experience. He also maintains that he is feeling stronger with the passage of time.
"We feel his energy and enthusiasm represent the personality of our club. He has put a lot into his career so far and we feel his best years are ahead of him. We're excited to see how those years will unfold,” assistant general manager Thad Levine said.
With a .279 average that he maintained in 2011, Elvis Andrus has the required skill with enthusiasm to put into action a much greater performance. The past two seasons have seen the Rangers prevail in both pitching and hitting. It is a repeat of the same
performance that the team will expect from the players this time round.
