Texas Rangers’ newly acquired pitcher Yu Darvish poised with media coverage
The Texas Rangers’ newly acquired pitcher Yu Darvish is receiving some extra attention from the media since he has joined the Texas based franchise for next six years. He is one of the fewest foreign players in Major League Baseball, who have with very little time, received this much media focus.
During the 2012 Spring Training in Arizona, almost every journalist asked him same questions as how he is feeling about that much attention and media coverage. Darvish on the other hand, told them with a brief description of everything that is happening with him after coming into the US and especially into the new club, Texas Rangers.
Darvish said through interpreter Joe Furakawa, "This definitely isn't normal, I've never been used to it and, even now, I'm not sure I understand it. I put on the uniform I felt a part of the team. I'm only starting to get to know the players. They are helping me and teaching me English. It might not be 'formal' English, but they are teaching me.”
Later on Darvish’s media coverage, his team-mate Josh Hamilton also said, “I think it’s awesome, just watching him the last couple of days -- he’s got a translator, but he’s approaching people. He's going to them. He's making the effort we wanted to see him make. I haven't seen him throw yet.”
Yu Darvish is a talented player and this type of media coverage was expected for a player who is that much talented. A native from Japan, with Olympics and World Baseball Championship experience, he will be a great help for the Rangers’ to develop a spirited team next season.
In the meanwhile, the Rangers also feel confident going into the next season with a complete roster. Along with Darvish, they have some important senior players, who can also help them achieve good results. Rangers’ manager Ron Washington is also pleased with the level of commitment his team is showing in this year’s Spring Training. He was also happy as his team is all set to put-up a good show next season as they are training hard to make the next season more enthralling.
